You CAN oil paint

This site is dedicated to spreading the Joy of Painting in the hope that you will get as much pleasure from it as I have.

I do not intend to sell any products but will pass on any usefull information on equipment and materials that I find.

Please enjoy.

Like most people I discovered Bob by accident while 'channel hopping' on my TV.

From the very first I was hooked by this softly spoken American who produced such amazing results in less than half an hour and insisted anyone can paint.

After watching the programme for many months I got the urge to paint.

With this in mind I started attending evening classes to learn watercolour painting.

I was very unhappy with most of the results and felt like giving up untill I attended an Art Show at the NEC in birmingham where I saw someone demonstrating Bob's method of painting. The demonstrator was running classes in Wolverhampton which is a long way from my home town of York.

I decided to give it a try and, catching the train at 6am I attended my first class. I had a geat day and when I arrived home at 10.30 that night I was able to show the family MY painting.

They found it hard to believe I had produced the painting I was showing them but, the paint was still wet and it had my signature on it.

After this I attended classes each month in Wolverhampton untill , by accident, I found someone running classes in Leeds which is only about half an hour away from home.

This continued for several months untill I found I could attend training courses to become a BR certified instructor.

My thinking on attending this course was not to run classes but I thought I would be able to learn all the basic methods in a short time.

After my final week I returned home with a large collection of paintings and, as a thank you to the company I work for, because they had made a small donation to my expenses, I presented one of the paintings to them.

This was put on display in the main entrance of the company H.Q. where it was admired by staff as they came to work.

I was approached by senior managment to see if I could do anything for all the people who expressed an interest in the painting method.

Because of this several Make & Take classes were held for which the company paid. From this regular classes were arrange for staff who wanted to complete a larger painting.

This has now been extended to monthly classes in the York area and free demonstrations for any groups in the area who are interested.

Several groups have enjoyed the demonstrations so much that they have insisted in making a donation. All these donations are sent to the Conary Care Unit at York District Hospital which is my way of saying Thank You for the great care I received when I spent a month in their care.

In order to improve my techniques I have attended several classes with well known artists and became certified as a Bill Alexander instructor. Bill, who is no longer with us, taught Bob the Wet in Wet method of painting.
